Jaw and Impact Crusher Maintenance

Here is the video transcript from our Rebel Crusher Q&A Series video,

Maintaining a Crusher. Jaw Crusher Maintenance, Impact Crusher Maintenance. What is it like?

You can see that video here: https://youtu.be/w8EgdNfIl6o

Hey welcome back to Rebel crusher Bob. And we’re going to be answering some of your questions regarding recycling material concrete asshole crushing screening and so forth. And today we have a question from looks like Scott in Arizona and Scott’s question is. I’ve heard that crushers are high maintenance. And what do the where parts costs and how often do they need to be replaced. So it’s a unique question Scott. I appreciate that. I would say that in general. Yeah. There’s definitely some maintenance involved with crushing. Typically we’re looking at the where parts or the actual parts of the crusher that are impacted by the material. So if it’s an impact crusher it would be the blow bars. If it’s a jaw crusher it’s the jaw dies or jaw plates. And most of the crushers that are out in the market you can flip the parts and double the life out of them. So you know it is something that’s built in it’s kind of like rotating your tires. But in general most people that are crushing are making so much money that the costs of where parts is basically negligible. You know it’s not something that they’re focused on although it’s a great question. I would say it can be very expensive if your material has a significant amount of abrasive qualities in it maybe has a lot of steel in it. And we want to look at that. So we definitely want you to call us and we can discuss your particular needs. But overall I would say that if I’m just looking at it typically our rebel crusher jaw would have less wear in general because it’s a jaw crusher they typically wear less. So you get more life out of the wear parts and let’s say an impactor which is more of a high maintenance higher wear product but again it would be your particular needs we want to see what you’re doing. We need to make sure we’re providing you with the right solution and then we need to make sure that the where parts don’t eat you out of house and home. So it’s a great question. But overall you can imagine if you’re making let’s say five hundred one thousand dollars an hour where the crusher let’s say the rebel OK and you’re where parts are maybe you know I don’t know twenty five cents a ton or whatever we can we can run the numbers for you. It’s not going to be a big concern for you. Still a great question and give us a call so we can go over it more detail and just answer it accurately. OK. Thanks Scott. Have a good day.

We will be closed on Good Friday 4/2/21

Not All Jaw Crushers are Created Equal!

NOT ALL JAW CRUSHERS are created EQUAL! Older traditional jaw crushers are normally used as primary crushers. They take in large chunks of material and reduce the material at an approximate 5 to 1 ratio. In other words, a 30″ input rock may be crushed down to 6″. Of course, the machine will produce material that is smaller but the jaw is known for knocking down big pieces so a secondary crusher can break them down further. A secondary crusher like a cone or impact crusher may take in the material that is around 6″ and reduce it to approximately 1″ minus. You’ll notice the reduction ratio is around 5 or 6 to 1. This is the quarry industry standard. The idea is that each machine does a little bit of work. This concept increases production and decreases wear on each machine. The downside is the HUGE capital investment in machinery. Rock quarries with thousands or millions of tons of material will justify large expensive systems. Many rock quarries have 10 plus years’ worth of reserves. It can all be broken down into the math of making the proper investment in machinery based on the needs of the business and customer demands.
Having said this, businesses that want to process material but are not opening a quarry are looking for an affordable solution. In addition, they’d prefer one machine that can DO IT ALL! Thus the reason the REBEL CRUSHER JAW was developed. Admittedly, it is not perfect. However, the REBEL Jaw has a huge feed opening and is capable of producing a product that looks like it went through multiple crushers. In other words, the REBEL CRUSHER JAW can take in huge chunks (approx 2 feet) and reduce them to approx. 1″ minus; all with one simple machine. Combine that with the REBEL’S MOBILITY, VERSATILITY, AND PRICE, and you have a machine that is easy to justify. We’ll be happy to discuss your specific needs via phone, text, or email. Please contact us to discuss and be sure the REBEL CRUSHER JAW is right for you.

The PROS and CONS of JAW CRUSHERS and IMPACT CRUSHERS

Each type of crusher has an intended purpose. The type of crusher utilized depends on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the following: Type of material to be processed, input size of the material, gradation(% of fines for example), production, desired output size. It’s safe to say that jaw crushers have a broader range of applications. In other words, jaw crushers can be used in 90% of applications. Jaw crushers are typically utilized in large hard rock quarries as the primary crusher. Jaws are known for being rugged, their slow speed, and being forgiving. Jaw crushers normally require less maintenance. Impact crushers are normally applied to a more specific application. Impact crushers crush by impacting and exploding material. Therefore, they normally generate more dust, fines and have higher wear. They operate at higher speed and in comparison to jaw crushers, normally wear out quicker.

What is a Jaw Crusher?

What is a Jaw Crusher?

From sedimentary rock, granite, and basalts to concrete waste, glass, and other brittle materials, the overhead eccentric jaw crusher is the most widely utilized primary crushing system.

A jaw crusher is a compression machine. It consists of 2 corrugated jaw plates (dies), one fixed (stationary) and one that is movable.  The opening is wider at the top than the bottom.  Shot rock type material up to 90% of the jaw opening size is typically acceptable. With material like gravel, 80% size is encouraged. As material moves from the top of the chute to the bottom, it is crushed smaller and smaller until it finally passes through the opening at the bottom. You can change the size of the material by adjusting the final discharge setting of the jaw crusher.

Jaw crushers can be stand-alone, skid-mounted, or used on a variety of mobile and portable plants. They can be driven by an electric or hydraulic motor. They come in many sizes to fit a variety of applications.
